It all comes back to personal responsibility and being accountable for your choices

So, the city of Los Angeles decided they had to ban fast food restaurants. Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with this country that the government thinks it needs to legislate what people eat by their own choice? No one has forced the people in the less well off economically speaking areas of L.A. to eat at a fast food place. They have willingly and freely chosen to eat there. Yet for some reason the government feels they know what is best and has decided the citizens of their municipality can not decide for themselves. I understand and agree that in many ways the government needs to provide guidance or services that free markets don't deem worth their effort. But to enact a law telling people what foods they can and cannot eat is anathema to all the principles this country is based on. But I digress...stepping down off my soap box.

The husband and I are in serious negotiations over a new apartment. It is bigger than the place we have now, has a good partial view of the NYC skyline and a lot of hotties in the building. Tonight over dinner we had a major discussion about our strategery going forward with the negotiations.

Tonight we went to a gallery show of Ragnar's boyfriend. I have never been to anything of the sort and it was an...interesting crowd. Our friend JW and Jd were there as well. JW looked at me and said "This type of crowd is why I was only an acting student at NYU for two years and ran away screaming." I don't know art but there were some really cool pieces that I found amusing and interesting. I faked my way through the conversations the entire evening.

You should be mad as hell and not take it anymore!

Am I the only one who is seriously offended at the following quote: "We wrote this legislation to bypass the normal rule making process." This is not from some third world country but from one Senator Christopher Dodd of the United States Senate. It might as well be from some third world legislator with what was done this past Saturday. Isn't that what the Founding Fathers fought against and why we have the Constitution? The whole rule of law thing?

In case you missed it, on this past Saturday the United States Congress totally screwed the U.S. taxpayers by passing legislation to rescue roughly 400,000 people who face the risk of foreclosure. Yeah right. They did to save Wall Street banks from having to pay the price for the blatant greed and avarice and down right sloppy work they have done over the past five years. Sadly I do expect at some point the U.S. will be added to the EEM.

There were major hotties at the gym tonight. Some new ones- ju jitsu guy, bodybuilding.com guy (he's not new but the husband and I chatted about him over dinner) and then Sayville who is also not new and totally adorable. Sayville is also tan, I imagine from his share on the shore. Then there was Lehigh- he is about my size, dark hair, nice blue eyes and dark hair. He actually used the elliptical next to me and I think was making googley eyes at me too.

The apartment hunt is going- not well or bad, just going. Hopefully we will have a place for SEP 1.

The husband invited a former co-worker of his out to the beach this weekend. HE is bringing a friend with him. I have not met either of them.

Now the stress is starting

Yesterday we took the boys to meet their new cousins. My brother and sister-in-law had pizza for us. I have to admit the nephews are really cute. The boys were excited and my oldest took pictures of his cousins. I convinced the boys that since their cousins were twins they had telepathy.

I and my oldest played tennis this morning. He brought his good racket this time. We didn't keep score. He is getting better and will be able to beat me soon I imagine.

The husband went to the museum today to check out some exhibit he has been wanting to see. Usually we are not around on the weekends in the summer but since we were this weekend he went. We have realized after this summer that next year we will probably try to find someone who would like to take every third weekend so we have some time to do some things in the city. While he did that I and the boys went to see Space Chimps. It was cute and definitely a kids flick. There were some funny lines and scenes but I am glad the husband did not go with us. He would have been annoyed.

The drive down to central Jersey was interesting. We drove through a torrential thunderstorm. My oldest turned to his brother and told him to tighten his seat belt. I told him not to worry.

When I got home the husband finally admitted he was starting to get stressed about the apartment situation. We are in negotiations on a new place but the whole logistics nightmare of moving is daunting.

Back to work tomorrow. I have no feel for the tape but did notice that financials have rallied something like 40%. It is a bear market rally. The FDIC took over two more banks this weekend, one in California the other in Nevada.

Viva Las Vegas!

Las Vegas was a blast. The husband and I got in Thursday night. We had a slight issue with the hotel when checking in but that was quickly remedied and they upgraded us to a suite to make up for the inconvenience. We gambled a little bit that night and went to bed.

Friday we hit the pool and it was packed. By 1 PM we were frying. The temperature hit 115 degrees- but it was a dry heat thank god. I don't know why anyone thinks that makes it feel any better- 115 degrees is still freakin' hot. We gambled some more but this time we played single deck blackjack and holy shit that was hard. But we had a dealer who'd been doing it for 30 years and she gave us a lot of good advice. That night we and the other two couples went and saw Cirque du Soleil O at the Bellagio. It was an amazing show. Afterwards we had dinner at one of the restaurants and I had my first brush with B-list fame. Cory Feldman was eating dinner at the table next to us. He is a lot shorter than I expected. He also had this huge bodyguard. I have no idea why he would need a bodyguard but he had one.

Afterwards we went to a gay club at one of the casinos. Sometimes I get fairly annoyed at how clever my team thinks it is. The club name was krave- seriously why not spell it the right way and use a capital letter? Our server was hot and shirtless though. I was staring the entire time.

The next day we went to the adults only pool at our hotel. It was quite the scene and there was a lot of eye candy. We then proceeded on our Showgirls tour. We had lunch at Caesars Forum and stopped at Versace. We took pictures too. Then we went to the Liberace Museum and I use the term museum loosely. IT was kind of sad since it occupies 2/3 of a strip mall and the people there take themselves so seriously. On the plus side I got to view the world's largest rhinestone. It was dusty and smudged with fingerprints which should give you an indication of the state of the museum. The husband and I then went back and gambled some more. That night we went and saw show that was so bad it was good. It involved vampires and boobies to a '70s and '80s classic rock soundtrack. There was no dialogue thank god. We then went to the top of the Stratosphere. The view of Vegas at night was amazing.

After the Stratosphere we tried a different club- also with a name that was too clever by far, Piranha. This place had some smoking hot go-go boys and they actually had a tank with man eating fish. The music was so loud my shirt was vibrating if I stood too close to the speaker.

Sunday we made the drive out to Hoover Dam. We did the tour and it was pretty amazing. It was stunning to find out that the whole project got done two years ahead of time and under budget- during the Depression no less. It also is fully self sufficient ans pays for itself. Probably one of the few projects the Federal government did not screw up.

Sunday night we went to the Bette Midler concert. It was a really good show and I am amazed she is 62 years old. She moved around on the stage like she was 30 years younger. I have not followed her career much so had no idea who Delores DeLago was but it was hilarious. After the concert we went and gambled bit more and went to bed.

We got up Monday and hung out by the pool, gambled a bit and then caught our plane back to Newark. This is where we had our second brush with B-list fame. Steven Baldwin was on our flight and much like Cory he is shorter in person than he appears on the cheesy SciFi movies. He also had serious ink on his arms. We went home and went to bed. Tuesday we took the train out to Sayville, picked up the kids and went out to the beach. The weather pretty much sucked- it was overcast and rained the entire time. Of course Friday as we were leaving it was a beautiful day. We got home, met with a realtor and started looking at apartments. The husband looked at 6 while I went down to pick up the boys. He winnowed the 6 down to three for me to look at today. There was one that had stunning views of the NYC skyline and he really wanted it. The catch is in that building each apartment is allowed only one dog. He was crushed. I think though we may have found a new place.

We took the boys to see Wall-E tonight. They loved it and it was a really good movie. Tomorrow morning my oldest and I are playing tennis. Then we are going to see Space Chimps.

I wasn't expecting that...

So last night the partnership that owns our apartment- we rent, no need to be long real estate now- informed us they were putting the place up for sale. The husband had been considering buying it but I and he think they are asking too much. I told the landlord that and he said he already has the buyer. So we are going to move. I made an appointment to look at a place on the Hudson tomorrow. It's a huge building but it's close to the gym, there is a grocery store there, a cleaners, a liquor/wine shop, a SBUX and a RAD. The price will be about the same rent-wise but parking won't be included. It is also right next to the ferry to midtown which means the husband can take that and the free bus to his office. I will stick to the buss since I walk across the street to get to my office once I get off the bus.

Yesterday I did something I said I wouldn't- I agreed to doing another tri with the husband. He convinced me to do one down the shore in early OCT. It is not as big a one as the one we did in JUN. I then proceeded to goad my boss into it. He is now calling it the war down the shore. Today I exchanged many txt msgs with his wife nad goaded her into it as well. Why do I do this to myself, especially when all of them will cross the line ahead of me.

I am officially on vacation now. Tomorrow we are off to Vegas. But first I need to drive the kids out to my mother-in-law's and drop them off until we get back. Tehn I need to go to the gym- will probably swim- and get back to Hoboken to check out the possibel new rental. I have to pack tonight.

I saw a new hottie on the bus today. I'm gonna call him shaved head. He had his hair cut with probably a #1 razor and was really cute. I swam this morning too. As I was getting out this serious cutie took my lane.

We get back from Las Vegas Monday night and then we are out to the beach for the rest of the week so I will be in communicado until a week from tomorrow. Next weekend is the Pines PArty but we will not be at the beach because we have the boys. We decided that exposing them to a party weekend on FI is not worth the agita.

Dinner in Paulus Hook

Had dinner last night in Jersey City with our frinds JW and JD. They are recent transplants to JC from the city. Their apartment has amazing views of the Manhattan skyline. The husband was jealous and now he wants to move to the waterfront in Hoboken. We had drinks in their place and caught up since we have not seen them much this summer. They also have a dog they rescued from an illegal dog-fighting ring- he is a pit bull. Probably two years old- very cute and energetic. Then we walked over to a nice restaurant in Paulus Hook and had an enjoybale dinner.

They are also making the trip to Vegas with us Thursday. We were discussing which scenes from Showgirls we want to visit. We are definitely having lunch in Caesar's Forum where Nomi and Crystal admitted to eating Puppy Chow. I bet Vegas could make a lot of money catering to all the gays who want to do a Showgirls bus tour.

I have to admit, have not been around Jersey City much but the Newport area, VanVorst Park and Paulus Hook are all actually pretty nice neighborhoods. Grove Street is becoming the new gayborhood. I had been somewhat biased against JC since my first stint in Hoboken. At one point JC had the most per capita heroin addicts in the country. They have been trying to gentrify the neighborhood for at least 20 years and they are finally getting it done.

Saw German shepard this morning in the court yard and I did not have my ticket but still got a free gun show- it was a nice way to start the morning. There were a lot of cuties on the bus this morning. Other hot married guy was on it too.

With IMB going under and getting taken over by the Feds (the third largest bank failure in U.S. history) the FDIC's capital base got deplieted by 10%. That is pretty stunning for one bank to wipe out 10% of the FDIC. It is also why no one cares that the government for all intents and purposes nationalized FNM and FRE. There are roughly 6,000 regional banks in the U.S. The Feds basically told them go screw yourselves, we have no ammo left and some of you will fail- too bad. Just for some perspective back in during the Great Depression roughly one third of all the banks disappeared. I am not saying that 2,000 banks are going to disappear but I bet a lot will. The one lesson you should take away from the past two years of market turmoil is that the Fed and the Treasury do not care about equity shareholders. Their main concern is making sure the debt markets work and that debt holders are made whole no matter what. This summer is going to continue to be depressing in the markets is my guess.

Have a dentist appointment today after the close then will most likely hang out with the other gays in the village at the Tuesday night meeting place. The husband is having dinner with a broker he finds cute.

Is it ok if we teach them poker?

The weekend was a really great one. It started with my parents coming down Thursday evening. The husband and I took them out to dinner. After we played out usual game of pitch. My father and I took the 3 game series 2 to 1.

Friday the tape was a stomach churning roller coaster. My parents picked up the boys at Newark airport when they landed and drove them directly out to the beach. Then I left after the close and, picked up the kids and jumped into the truck, drove through the city and picked the husband up on a street corner then drove out to the ferry. We caught the 8 o'clock boat and I have to say it was an incredibly amazing sunset. We made dinner for us, my parents and TK joined us as well. We then played some more cards, I put the boys to bed and the husband, I and TK then went out.

Saturday the weather was amazing and we were in the pool most of the day. The boys also spent part of the morning playing cards with my parents. They started off with crazy eights and then my parents decided to teach them the basics of poker. My oldest came out and asked if I had any cool sunglasses for him to wear. I gave him my Oakley Gascans. I had asked my oldest to walk the kids on the beach with me and he passed. That was actually a good thing since as I was walking him I ran into a friend who was chatting with this woman of a certain age who just happened to be completely naked. I hear my friend call her Robin. The husband told me it was Robin Byrd.

The husband's mother and step-father came out in the late afternoon to have dinner with us all. The husband and I (mostly the husband) did all the prep work then we went to tea. By the time we got back the husband's step father had had quite a bit of wine. The man is normal the epitome of stoicism but he was a veritable chatter box. He said he thought he should visit more since the food was so good.

Ok, FNM and FRE are basically getting nationalized if you missed it. They aren't calling it that because it would freak too many people out. I think a lot of the reason that happened was because IMB was seized by the Feds. That was not a good thing. Anyways, the tape is going to continue to be in disarray for the rest of the year is my guess.

This week is still way too busy. The only really good thing is it is a three day week for me. Thursday we are off to Vegas. We get back Monday morning and are out to the beach for the week.

Hump day

I felt much better this morning. The husband and I went out to catch the bus this morning. I noticed two new cuties on the waiting line behind us. One I'll call sunglasses and the other was this black Irish guy. I did not get to really check them out because we had waited over 10 minutes with one full bus going by. so we walked to the other uptown bus stop and grabbed it there.

I hadn't heard from JP since I had dinner with him a few weeks ago. Sent him an email to check in. Mr. Barrett seems excited for his visit to FI. Apparently his mom is watching LOGO since she told him she knew all about it from television.

USA Network has a show called Burn Notice. No clue what it is about but the lead is pretty damn good looking. Tonight the new Scare Tactics premieres.

Ahhh Tuesday

So the three day weekend at the beach was great. The weather kind of sucked because it was overcast the entire time. At least it did not rain.

The weather was very conducive to teaching our guests how to play pitch, aka eucher. It's a pretty simple card game but very addictive. I played a lot in college and the fraternity house was a hot bed of it and often you'd get tournaments go with guys blowing off classes for the entire day.

We went to tea Saturday when MM and I noticed this MASSIVE man- all muscly and huge. When we went back to the house I was leafing thru H/X and saw his picture in the back- yep, he's a porn star. One Erik Rhodes. All I could think was he's got to be a bottom otherwise he'd kill his co-stars.

The boys are off to Florida for the week with their mom, her bf and father. Down to the Keys. They get back Friday and then I will be taking them out to the beach to spend the weekend with us and my parents. Last year when my parents came down my dad got hit on at tea within 5 minutes of being there. That was both amusing and kind of gross.

My brother the doctor is going to come down after Labor Day with his wife and spawn. Yesterday he was annoying me by not listening to my specific instructions about how to get the ferry over. After the fourth time he got it. For a doctor he can be a little thick sometimes.

My youngest brother then decided it was his turn to pester me. He asked if I wanted to go fishing in the East River WED. I told him as much as I love hanging out with him he knows I hate fishing.

I think I have created a monster with the husband. He is now planning on doing another triathlon. I told cool, all you I will be your race crew. He is looking at a bunch in Jersey down the shore.

We had dinner with our friend MJ last night. She has been back in the States for four weeks now. After she visited us at the beach for Memorial Day she went home only to find out her father has cancer. It is serious too. Apparently is is small cell, stage 4 and has metastized everywhere. I believe she said he has months to live. She needed a break from it all so came down to NYC for the week to work out of her firms office here.

I ate something that did not agree with me at said dinner with MJ. I was up all night in the bathroom. I went into the office anyways because the husband and I were supposed to go to the MoMA with EM and his bride. I told EM at 2:30 sorry but I can't do it. The husband still went. I came home, took a warm bath and then a nap. Definitely not going to hang out with the other gays in the village tonight.

Whoo hoo- three day weekends rock

So, this mrning the husband and I got on the bus and there he was- a Daniel Craig look-alike. Holy shit he was hot! I immediately texted the husband "Woof!" He started laughing because he knew exactly what I meant. It was a really nice way to start the day.

The markets close early today for the 4th of July. I thnk a lot of people will be glad for that because the tape got real ugly in the last two hours yesterday. I was stunned when I saw that General Motors closed at a 54 year low- yes, that is not a typo, GM is now trading at a price last seen when my parents were teenagers. Mattel- the maker of Matchbox cars- now has a larger market cap that GM- a maker of real cars!

I am doing a research lunch today with the analyst who covers casual dining here. He, myself, the kid next to me and my secret man-crush in the office are going to Olive Garden. After that I am catching the train out to the beach.

We don't have the internet out at the beach so I will not be posting anything until Sunday evening at the earliest. Enjoy the 4th.

I'm psyched for the new Scare Tactics

Ok, I remember the old Scare Tactics on Sci Fi when it was hosted by Shanon Doherty. It was a great show. I think Tracy Morgan will be great as the host too. The other thing I and the husband are psyched for is Hellboy II.

The tape today was all over the place. I unfortunately do believe we will attack Iran either directly or through a proxy, i.e. Israel. I have read a lot on the topic and from what I understand it would most likely be a night time attack and the best time to do that is when there is a new moon. This Thursday there is a new moon.

This Thursday the ECB is also meeting and I think they will raise rates. The U.S. markets close early- stocks at 1 PM and bonds at 2 PM. both markets are closed Friday for the Fourth. Thursday could be a scary day for the markets.

I am fairly certain that is not discounted by the markets right now. I think it is possible that oil will trade above $150. There are still over 6,000 banks in the country, my guess is a couple of years from now there will be a lot less. Last week someone in the market bought serious end of the world type protection that got noticed by a lot of people. I don't think LEH will disappear.

The boss and I had drinks tonight with another trader in the business. Here is the surreal part. He works at the same firm as the husband and lives in Hoboken as well. He is pretty damn cute too. I am fairly certain he doesn't know the connection between me and the husband. He has dreamy blue eyes, lol.

I told the husband I am not doing any driving this weekend. I am taking the train out to the beach after work. All that means is I will have to make dinner. The husband's assistant, his wife and a woman who work with them are coming out to the beach for the weekend. The Fourth is when the annual Invasion of the Pines occurs. I have no idea what it entails but will be sure to report back.
